Anika Noni Rose has been quietly but diligently making moves in Hollywood. Although, she’s most well known for her performance in Dreamgirls, Rose has also been in several films and TV shows since. Including but not limited to: The Starter WifeThe No. 1 Ladies’ Detective AgencyPrivate PracticeThe Good WifeBates Motel, and Power. Not to mention her killing it on Broadway!
With so many Hollywood women moving behind the camera and YA novels adaptions being hotter than ever, it should come as no surprise that she’s acquired the TV and film rights to Shadowshapers. Shadowshapers is a YA novel centered around a Afro-Latino Brooklynite young lady, Sierra Santiago, that combines mythical spirits and the arts.

Rose is very excited about the project stating:

Shadowshaper was a book I couldn’t put down…. at a time when so many are feeling powerless, Sierra Santiago is a young Afro-Latina heroine who finds her power within herself. Through a strong spiritual connection to her ancestors, the discovery of the magic living in her art, and with the help of some amazing friends, she saves her family, and her Brooklyn neighborhood from certain destruction. A face and culture we rarely see on screen; she is the heroine we’ve been searching for, only to find she lives right next door.”– Rose

This project differently seems interesting. The diverse female heroine, Brooklyn setting, and YA novel based content could be just the combo she needs to land a deal with a network or studio.
